Installing mods
Install mods from modworkshop with one click, or drop in local archives from your filesystem.
From Browse
The Browse tab shows the modworkshop catalog for the active game. Click any mod to open its detail page, then click Install. Modrex downloads the file, extracts it if needed, and places it in the correct location automatically.
Supported local file formats: .pak, .zip, .7z, .rar.
Archives can contain PAYDAY 3 .pak files, PAYDAY 2/PAYDAY: The Heist BLT or BeardLib folders, or
mod_overrides content. If an archive contains both mods/ and mod_overrides/ entries, Modrex
routes each entry to the right destination.
Multi-file mods
Some mods ship multiple files or folders inside a single archive. When Modrex detects this, it opens a picker so you can choose which entries to install. All entries are pre-selected by default - deselect any you don’t want.
Loader and host-mod dependencies
For PAYDAY 2 and PAYDAY: The Heist, some mods require a loader such as SuperBLT, PDTHModOverrides, or DAHM. When Modrex can install a required loader directly, the dependency warning includes an install action. If a dependency is hosted offsite, Modrex opens the external download page so you can install it manually.
Some PAYDAY 2 content packs belong inside another host mod instead of directly inside the game. When Modrex recognizes that pattern, it prompts you to install the required host mod and then places the pack inside it. If an archive cannot be placed safely, Modrex shows the author’s instructions instead of guessing.
External links
If a mod’s download is hosted outside modworkshop (external link), Modrex shows a warning and opens the link in your browser. Download the file manually, then install it from a local file.
From a local file
Drag a supported file onto the Installed tab, or click Install from file in the top bar. Modrex handles extraction and placement the same way as a Browse install.
Enable and disable
Toggle the switch next to any mod to enable or disable it without uninstalling. Disabled mods are
moved to a disabled/ subfolder with a .disabled extension - they’re preserved on disk but the
game ignores them.
Uninstalling
Right-click a mod and select Uninstall, or use the context menu. The .pak file is deleted from
disk and the mod is removed from Modrex’s state.
Uninstalling is permanent. If you want to keep the file but stop using the mod, disable it instead.
Reinstalling and updating
Click Reinstall on a mod to re-download and replace its current file. If Modrex detects newer versions for installed mods, use the update prompt to review and install them in bulk.
