Changelog

What's new

Every update ships with plain-language release notes. Here are the most recent.

v0.15.0Latest

Added

  • Added Italian as a language option for the app's interface.
  • Added Simplified Chinese as a language option for the app's interface.
  • Added a viewer for browsing the contents of installed Unreal Engine pak mods.
  • Added an optional Windows setting to start SISR before games launched from Modrex, with setup and launch-failure warnings.
  • Added a setting to choose the app's accent color.
  • Modrex now names which UE4SS release is installed, and can replace it with another or remove it. Both say what they change and what they keep first.

Changed

  • Startup no longer runs the Microsoft Store lookup for a game more than once at a time.
  • The game picker no longer changes which copy of a game is selected while working out which games are installed.
  • PAYDAY 3 no longer asks for the -fileopenlog launch option, which the game stopped reading in Update 3.8.

Fixed

  • Fixed installing a file from the Manage Files list picking the wrong one when a mod's archive holds two files with the same name in different folders.
  • Fixed installing the wrong file from an archive that contains two entries whose names look the same, such as a mod packaged with both forward and back slashes in its paths. Each entry you pick now installs its own contents.
  • Fixed Nexus Mods sign-in and website mod downloads not reaching Modrex on Linux.
  • Fixed enabling or disabling a mod being reported as done when its files could not be moved, such as while the game is running.
  • Fixed a mod being left split between folders when its .ucas or .utoc file could not be moved with its pak.
  • Fixed mod folders and load order being lost when Modrex could not read its saved mod list.
  • Fixed dragging a mod's archive onto Modrex moving that mod out of the folder it was filed in, unlike installing it from its page.
  • Fixed uninstalling a PAYDAY 3 mod deleting another mod's files.
  • Fixed one UE4SS release reading as installed on another release's page, leaving no way to switch between them.
  • Fixed installing UE4SS leaving an older one hooked into the game beside it.
  • Fixed your own Lua mods being left in the old folder when a UE4SS update moves where the loader reads them.

Security

  • Opening the log from Settings now opens the log file itself instead of writing a copy to a predictable name in the system temporary folder, which another program could have redirected at one of your own files.
  • Cleanup after installing a .pdmod file or a loose non-archive file can no longer reach outside the files Modrex staged, and refuses a link rather than following it out of the temporary folder.
  • Archives waiting on a choice, such as picking which files to install, are now tracked by Modrex itself rather than by a file path passed back from the interface, so only the archive Modrex staged can be opened or removed.
v0.14.0

Added

  • Added German as a language option for the app's interface.
  • Added Ukrainian as a language option for the app's interface.
  • Added X and Bluesky links to the website and to app's Settings > About.

Changed

  • Modrex now recognizes a mod from what its own files say, not only from whether ModWorkshop lists it. Mods published on an author's own site, a GitHub repository, or a service that has since shut down are recognized, listed under the name and version they declare rather than their folder name, and no longer appear under Health Check's "Unidentified".
  • Mods and news articles without a picture now show a placeholder icon instead of the words "No image".
  • Mod pages now keep the banner area for mods that have no image, instead of collapsing it.

Fixed

  • Fixed PAYDAY 2, PAYDAY: The Heist and RAID mods whose ModWorkshop download is hosted elsewhere, such as GitHub or an author's own site, never being recognized.
  • Fixed some asset-replacement mods, the ones installed into assets/mod_overrides, never being recognized.
  • Fixed some PAYDAY 2 mods hosted as RAR archives on ModWorkshop failing to be recognized.
  • Fixed a mod being matched to an unrelated ModWorkshop page whose title merely ended with the mod's folder name, such as "Bag Contour" matching "Blue Bodybag Contour".
  • Fixed a mod that was recognized only after a later index update never being offered updates again.
  • Fixed Settings opened from the game picker still showing the "Restore mods" notice and installing dragged-in mod files into the last opened game.
  • Fixed Modrex using the wrong copy of a game installed on more than one store, which made installed mods look like they had vanished.
  • Fixed an expired Nexus Mods sign-in failing silently.
  • Fixed installed Nexus mods not recovering their details and update checks after signing in again, until the app was restarted.
  • Fixed Nexus Mods requests failing until the app was restarted when Nexus rejected a sign-in before it was due to expire.
  • Fixed oversized mod thumbnails in the Installed list view.
  • Fixed the Linux AppImage showing a black window instead of the app on systems with newer graphics drivers.
  • Fixed Modrex not starting on Linux systems that do not have xdg-utils or desktop-file-utils installed.
  • Fixed the browser, Steam and other programs opened from Modrex's Linux AppImage failing to start.
v0.13.0

Added

  • Added Nexus Mods as a second mod source for PAYDAY 3, PAYDAY 2, PAYDAY: The Heist, and Crime Boss: Rockay City. Browse and install through OAuth sign-in and website mod-manager downloads, choosing between ModWorkshop and Nexus Mods from the top of the Browse page.
  • Unrecognized Nexus mods can now be identified by matching them against Nexus's own listings: dragged-in archives at drop time, and already-installed mods automatically or on demand from a mod's options menu.
  • New About tab in Settings with project info and quick links to the GitHub repository, GitHub Sponsors, Discord, and modrex.net.
  • A one-time banner asking for a GitHub star, shown once ever after the 10th successful mod install (and at least a week of use). Dismissing it is permanent.
  • Added support for RAID: World War II: browse, install, and manage its mods (SuperBLT and legacy RaidBLT script mods plus asset override packs, all installed into the game's mods folder as the current loader expects), with one-click install and dependency detection for the RAID-SuperBLT mod loader.
  • Browse now lets you filter mods by tag, choosing tags to include or exclude.
  • New Storage section in Settings to clear cached data and reset app settings to defaults.
  • New buttons in Settings to open the game folder, each of its mod folders, and Modrex's data and install folders.
  • Mods can now be installed by dragging files from the file explorer into the window.
  • Added a Language setting for the app's interface: English and Russian.

Changed

  • Loading placeholders now use one consistent design across mod cards, mod details, galleries, downloads, formatted text, and the Settings page.
  • Replaced the native title bar with a custom one, unified across all platforms.
  • Improved app startup time.
  • Redesigned the startup screen as a compact window with loading progress.
  • Mod licenses now show as their own tab on the mod page with full formatting.
  • Redesigned the mod page:
    • Mod details (downloads, likes, views, version, dates, and links) moved into an info panel that stays visible while you scroll.
    • The panel now credits everyone who worked on the mod, with avatars and roles, not just the author. Clicking a person opens their ModWorkshop profile.
    • Each contributor with a donation link gets their own donation button, labeled with where it leads (PayPal, Ko-fi, GitHub Sponsors, and more).
    • Mods with a public repository get a Repository row showing where the code is hosted (GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket), replacing the plain "Source" link.
    • Banners keep the same proportions as on ModWorkshop instead of being cropped to a fixed height.
    • Descriptions and dependency lists use the full page width.
  • The Dependencies & Instructions tab now lists dependencies in the author's intended install order, numbered, with instructions below.
  • The PAYDAY 2 Diesel 3.0 notice no longer appears at startup.

Fixed

  • Fixed automatic updates for Linux DEB and RPM installations.
  • Fixed popup windows resizing and shifting position as their contents changed, most noticeably when switching tabs in the mod health check.
  • Fixed the download progress bar sometimes remaining visible after a mod finished installing.
  • Fixed the game picker's "Installed only" filter sometimes hiding installed games.
  • Fixed installed mods not being recognized on slower internet connections, where the mod identification data could time out before it finished downloading.
  • Fixed a rare case where an interrupted background update left the mod identification data unreadable, keeping installed mods unrecognized until the next refresh.
  • Fixed the Settings > Game tab's launcher selector staying disabled with no explanation while launcher detection was still running in the background; it now shows a detecting indicator instead.
  • Fixed mods whose names contain characters such as % or _ not being recognized by name.
  • Fixed the app not remembering which tab you were on after switching games.
  • Fixed the analytics consent prompt not appearing on first launch until a game was selected.
  • Fixed the game picker still acting on the previously selected game, which could show a game-specific notice or the wrong Discord status while no game was chosen.
  • Fixed mod cards varying in height depending on their title and description length, which made grid rows uneven across Browse and Installed.
  • Fixed installing multiple files from one archive keeping only the last selected file, as each file's install removed the previously installed one.
  • Fixed an empty duplicate folder appearing next to a mod's card when the mod's files span that folder and the top level.
  • Fixed PAYDAY: The Heist reporting every mod loader dependency as missing in the health check, which checked for PAYDAY 2's SuperBLT instead of PDTH's own loaders.
  • Fixed a mod loader showing as installed immediately after installing it while installing the mod still reported it missing. Loader status is now re-checked against the game folder instead of assumed, which also corrects PAYDAY 2's Diesel 3.0 branch, where SuperBLT cannot work even when its file is present.
  • Fixed dependencies that need a manual choice, such as picking from a multi-file archive, doing nothing when installed from a mod's Dependencies tab. They now explain that the dependency has to be installed from its own mod page.
  • Fixed overlapping operations on the same game, such as a download finishing while the mod list refreshed, being able to discard each other's changes to the installed mod list.
  • Fixed the "mods are hidden" warning sometimes never clearing after launching PAYDAY 2 or PAYDAY: The Heist without mods.
  • Fixed the Launch and Launch Modded buttons showing in Settings when it was opened without a game selected.
  • Fixed several dialogs missing a close button in the top corner, so every dialog can now be closed with an X.
  • Fixed the Linux app not having a proper icon in the taskbar, application menu, and window switcher.
  • Fixed dragged-in downloaded archives being named after the download's filename instead of the mod's real name.
  • Fixed selecting a folder that is not a valid game installation being accepted without warning and then silently cleared on the next refresh; the folder is now rejected with an explanation.
  • Fixed the game folder picker always naming PAYDAY 3 in its title regardless of which game was being configured.

Security

  • Prevented external URL query parameters from being reinterpreted as Windows shell commands.
  • Hardened thumbnail caching to reject unsafe image filenames.
  • Mod descriptions are now sanitized before rendering: scripts, event handlers, and unsafe HTML from mod pages are stripped, while formatting, images, colored text, and video embeds keep working.
  • Prevented maliciously crafted color tags in mod descriptions from stalling the app.
  • Archive extraction now stops once an archive expands far past its own size, so a malformed or malicious mod archive cannot fill the drive.
